Young researchers

Dr. Oskar Marko

is mainly concerned with machine learning and its application in big agricultural data. He is currently working on a seed selection algorithm that has potential to increase yields for up to 10% without any additional investment in fertiliser or pesticide.

Dr. Isidora Simović

did her PhD at the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, observing morphology, phenology and anatomy of trees in urban and natural habitats. She is currently working as a researcher applying remote sensing techniques in phenology and phytopathology monitoring.

Branislav Pejak

is a researcher and PhD student of Electrical Engineering on Faculty of Technical Sciences, the University of Novi Sad. His main research is data analytics on satellite images. Currently he is working on crop classification and crop yield prediction using time series of multispectral images and vegetation indices.

Nastasija Grujić

is a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, the University of Novi Sad. Her particular research interests include geoinformatics, the concept of BIG data and data visualization.

Miloš Pandžić

is primarily concerned with remote sensing data processing in the domain of Earth observation. He is working both with optical and radar (SAR) satellite data, namely ESA’s Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2, for monitoring crop growth, crop classification and time series analysis.

Teodora Knežić

works at BioSense Institute as a Junior Researcher in the Center for Biosystems. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Molecular Biology and she is currently a Ph.D. student of Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, with Dr Ivana Gađanski as the mentor. Her main research interests are biosensor development and molecular techniques for pathogen detection, cellular agriculture, and development of lab-on-a-chip platforms.

Dragana Blagojević

is MSc in Geography and Ph.D. student of Geosciences at Faculty of Sciences. Her research is focused on geographic information systems and their usage in the analysis of hydrological and geomorphological processes in nature. Currently, her aim is to direct her research towards remote sensing and its applications in precision agriculture.

Andrea Mihajlović

is a PhD student of Informatics at Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, where she also obtained a Master and Bachelor degree in Applied mathematics. Currently she works as Junior researcher at BioSense Institute with main research interests in the analysis of microbiome data and exploration of the statistical and machine learning techniques in microbiome studies.

Stefan Jarić

received his Bachelor’s and Master degree of physics by Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. He is currently a PhD student of physics at Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad and junior researcher at Center for Sensor Technologies, BioSense Institute. The development and investigation of graphene-based biosensors is his main research topic.

Maksim Lalić

is an MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. He is interested in the development of agent systems using machine learning and operational research techniques.

Nina Pajević

is a junior researcher and master's student at the Department of Telecommunications, from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia. She is currently working on the analysis of data from multispectral satellite images in order to detect irrigated areas, predict wheat yield, as well as detect damaged regions of agricultural plots.

Dr. Ljiljana Janjušević

joined the Center for Biosystems of BioSense Institute as a senior researcher. She obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Throughout her doctoral studies, the focus of the research was on examining the biological activities and chemical composition of macrofungi. Currently, her main research interest is molecular detection of pathogenic microorganisms of cultivated fungi, plants, and food, as well as research in the field of biomolecular engineering and cell agriculture.

Dr. Sanja Brdar

received her Dipl.-Ing. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, and is currently a research fellow at BioSense Institute. She develops data analytics methods for solving diverse challenges in agriculture such as yield prediction, genotype-phenotype mapping, unveiling the role of microbiome. Her research interests include ensemble methods, data fusion, clustering, deep learning, predictive modelling and bioinformatics methods. She is dedicated to supervision of master and PhD students in topics related to Dragon project. Within the project she also serves as Innovation manager and leader of Ethics work package that is mainly concerned with GDPR.

Dr. Marko Panić

has particular research interests in inverse imaging problems (reconstruction, denoising, deblurring). He has experience with analysis and processing of different image modalities. Currently he is working on analysis of hyperspectral images for early assessment of vegetables and fruit quality using deep neural networks.

Vladan Minić

is a Manager in Center for Product Development, researcher and system administrator. His main research interests are wireless sensor networks and image processing. He participates in many national and international projects.

Milica Brkić

received her master's degree in Data science. Currently, she is PhD Student of Informatics and she is working on crop yield prediction using data fusion by matrix factorization algorithm.

Dejan Pavlović

is a researcher and PhD student. He is mainly interested in machine learning and signal processing. Currently, he is developing an algorithm for mastitis prediction in cows and working on smart crop configuration planning.

Aleksandar Antić

is a Junior Research Assistant and a student PhD student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, at the University of Novi Sad. His main research interests are applications of machine learning techniques in digital image processing. Main focus of his research is noise reduction in satellite images.

Stefanija Stojkovic

is an MSc in Geodesy and Geoinformatics and Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. She currently works as a Junior Researcher at BioSense Institute in the Center for Information Technologies. Her main research interest is the development of geoinformatics and remote sensing in the field of precision agriculture. She is currently working on the detection of irrigated fields using time series of multispectral images and vegetation indices.

Dr. Nikola Obrenović

received his PhD degree from the University of Novi Sad, in 2015. Before joining BioSense, Nikola worked as Postdoctoral researcher at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, and held a position of an Assistant Professor at the University of Novi Sad. His research interests include mathematical optimization, operations research, and machine learning, with applications in agricultural systems.

Dr. Andrijana Andrić

is a Research associate in the field of Biology within the Centre for Biosystems at the BioSense Institute. She has received PhD degree in 2015 from the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad (PhD Thesis Scientific field - Biology / Scientific discipline - Genetics). Her research focus is study of insect pollinators and their host plants, using various approaches in order to obtain data on their biology and ecology. Her current research interests are primarily directed towards phytophagous hoverflies, their underexplored developmental stages and complex plant-insect relationships.

Marija Kopanja

is MSc student of Applied Mathematics at Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. The research area she is currently working on as a part of her master thesis is analysis of machine learning methods for cost-sensitive classification problems and their application on imbalanced data within medicine. Her research interests include predictive modelling, numerical optimization and ensemble machine learning methods.

Dr. Nataša Ljubičić

received her Ph.D. degrees in biotechnical sciences from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Novi Sad. She has been engaged as a researcher in the Center of Biosystems, at the BioSense Institute, in Novi Sad. Her field area is particularly oriented on the application of innovative and smart technology in agriculture, with the main aim to increase crop yield and improve agricultural production.

Dr. Gordan Mimić

is dealing with the meteorological data and doing feature engineering for the crop yield prediction model. Currently he is analyzing influence of environmental conditions on maize yield, especially heat and drought stress.

Željana Šarić

is researcher and a Ph.D. student of Electrical Engineering on Faculty of Technical Sciences, the University of Novi Sad. She is currently working on developing algorithms for early prediction yield of wheat based on RGB and thermal images and prediction of spreading fungi on tomatoes based on hyperspectral images.

Predrag Matavulj

is a PhD Student of Informatics, with master’s degree in Data Science. He is currently involved in Data Fusion in CNNs for Real-Time Pollen Particle Identification research, trying to classify different pollen (and in future also non-pollen) particles.

Predrag Lugonja

is a researcher at BioSense Institute. He graduated from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Department of Power, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering. He is currently in the final year of his PhD studies at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. He has been working in the fields of GIS and remote sensing data.

Bojana Ivošević

is working on utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for efficient monitoring of croplands, freshwaters, and terrains. She is a PhD student in Ecological Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Her current research focus is to implement UAV technology in precision agriculture to calculate vegetation indices important for agricultural crop yield production.

Mirjana Radulović

is a PhD Student of Geosciences at the Faculty of Sciences, the University of Novi Sad. Her research focus is on groundwater and also usage of geographic information system and remote sensing in the field of hydrology.

Dragana Marinković

is an MSc in Agricultural Engineering and a Ph.D. student of Agronomy at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad. She currently works as a Junior researcher at BioSense Institute in the center for biosystems. Her research focuses on soil science, precision agriculture in plant nutrition and environmental protection.

Dr. Ljiljana Šašić Zorić

is a researcher at the BioSense Institute with expertise in genetics. She received her PhD from the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. She is particularly oriented on the application of mitochondrial and nuclear sequence based molecular markers in genetic analyses, identification and delimitation of European hoverfly species. Her area of interest includes application of genetic, genomic and metagenomic approaches in molecular taxonomy and systematics.

Branislav Živaljević

is a PhD student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Novi Sad. His current research is focused on using GIS and remote sensing techniques in forecasting yield of different types of crops.

Miljana Marković

is a MSc in Geodesy and Geomatics and Ph.D. student of Geosciences at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Her main research is focused on applying remote sensing and geographical information systems in the field of agriculture. Currently, she is working on the prediction of crop planting and harvesting dates using time series of multispectral images and vegetation indices.

Vladan Filipović

is a Junior Researcher and master's student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Main focus of his research is the analysis of hyperspectral and RGB images.

Dimitrije Stefanović

is a junior researcher and a Master student of Electrical Engineering, at Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad. His current research is related to developing artifact removal algorithms in hologram reconstructions of pollen particles based on graph signal processing. Also he is interested in 3D reconstruction of pollen particles and wheat ears.
